SoundApp is the premiere sound playback and conversion utility for the Macintosh. It is suitable for use as a sound-playing helper application with any of the popular WWW browsers, in addition to managing a collection of favorite sound samples and stand-alone usage. SoundApp remains freeware, so you may use it at no cost.

  6. SoundApp can play or convert files dropped onto it in a variety of formats. In addition, it supports Play Lists which are lists of sound files that can be saved for later usage. Files in a Play List can be played or converted as a group or individually. SoundApp supports a randomized shuffle playback mode and repeated playback of Play Lists.

  8. The following sound file formats are supported: 
  9. * SoundCap (including Huffman-compressed), 
  10. * SoundEdit (including stereo), 
  11. * AIFF, AIFF-C (MACE-3, MACE-6, IMA 4:1 and u-law), 
  12. * System 7 sound, 
  13. * QuickTime MooV (soundtracks only, including MIDI movies), 
  14. * Sun Audio AU and NeXT .snd (including u-law, a-law, 8- and 16-bit linear, G.721 and G.723 ADPCM), 
  15. * Windows WAVE (including GSM, IMA and MS ADPCM compressed, u-law and a-law), 
  16. * MPEG Audio (Layers I and II only, requires a Power Macintosh), 
  17.  * Sound Blaster VOC, 
  18. * MIDI (type 0 and 1), 
  19. * many varieties of MODs, 
  20. * ScreamTracker modules 3 (S3M), 
  21. * Amiga IFF/8SVX (including compressed), 
  22. * Sound Designer II, 
  23. * IRCAM, 
  24. * PSION sound files, 
  25. * DVI ADPCM, 
  26. * Raw GSM, 
  27. * Studio Session Instruments and 
  28. * 'snd ' resources (including MACE-3, MACE-6, IMA 4:1 and u-law).

  30. SoundApp can convert all of these formats to System 7 sound, sound suitcase, AIFF, WAVE and NeXT formats.

  48. * Fixed a bug which would insert a very short click at the beginning of a WAVE output file, 
  49. * Fixed a bug while converting MPEG files with an internal CRC check which caused the conversion to fail, 
  50. * No longer write non-standard AIFF headers when converting, 
  51. * Fixed a bug that would cause a crash when two MOD files are played one after the other using the ZSS drivers, 
  52. * Removed some math calls which would prevent SoundApp from running with some old versions of MathLib on Power Macs.
